West to the Thousand Islands of New York

We're heading off to the Thousand Islands of New York, where Lake Ontario funnels into the St. Lawrence River. Our planned route is south on Lake Champlain and into the Champlain Canal, east on the Erie Canal, north on the Oswego Canal, north across Lake Ontario to the Thousand Islands, east down the St. Lawrence River past Montreal to Sorel, where we head south on the Richelieu River and back into Lake Champlain.
We were in the Thousand Islands briefly on our Rideau trip a few years ago, and knew then that the day and a half spent in the area was not long enough; we've been wanting to return ever since for some extended exploring. As usual, Paige is keeping a travel diary.
